International Adventure Nanny Of The Week: Tessa Kempthorne

Adventure Nanny Of The Week: Tessa Kempthorne

There aren’t many nannies out there that take adventure as seriously as Tessa Kempthorne. An international nanny with over 16 years of experience, Tessa knows a thing or two about traveling the world. She’s lived on 5 continents and visited 32 countries (so far) and doesn’t plan on stopping there.

Experience

Tessa’s most recent position was the head nanny for a jet setting family in the Middle East. She traveled extensively with them on trips ranging from 3 to 10 weeks. Through this, she became extremely adept at traveling with children. Tessa rearranged hotel rooms, managed large groups of staff + family members and made sure the children’s rooms were stocked with everything they needed. After working with this family for over a year, she even developed a functional grasp of the Arabic language.

A native New Zealander, Tessa has a BA from the University of Auckland. There she studied early childhood education, psychology, personality theory and development, and Mandarin language. This knowledge has served her well as both a nanny and a caregiver for young adults with physical and intellectual disabilities.

“When I’m not working and having an amazing time with all the kids I care for, I love spending time with my two nephews in New Zealand (I’m such a proud aunty), or with my dog who lives in Ireland (his name is Batman and I love him), my family in Australia or traveling around the world to spend time with my friends whom I adore.” – Tessa

Personality

Tessa is extremely hard working, discreet, and professional. She carries herself with disarming ease and lightness about her and is self-described as being kooky, goofy and fun. Children adore her, and adults trust her with managing staff members while providing top-notch care for their children. On top of all of this- she can cook!

What’s Next

Tessa looks forward to finding a job with a traveling family that she can enrich and inspire for years to come. She loves learning languages, challenges, guiding children through their various developmental stages, and problem-solving with parents.

“What I really enjoy is the fun children have when it comes to learning – everything is new and amazing and watching them figure things out, how to do things on their own or how to communicate with you is really rewarding and often hilarious. If you turn the world into their playground, they certainly reward you with smiles and laughter and excitement as they master each new phase – walking, crawling, talking, reading, writing – putting on their own shoes even; that kind of independence really makes most kids excited about their day.” -Tessa
