Felicity Powers Is A Homeschooling Family’s Dream Educator
We are incredibly lucky here at Adventure Nannies in that we get to meet some of the most inspirational families, nannies, and private educators on earth. Over the last few years, we’ve seen a big increase in families wanting to take a year (or more!) off with their children to allow the world itself to become a classroom.
Often the parents of these families do not have a background in education themselves, so they come to us in search of private educators who can accompany them wherever they go to help their children develop skills they need to thrive while out of a traditional school environment.
Through this process, we have the great privilege of getting to know lots of extraordinary educators, and lately, we can’t get one of them off of our minds.
Introducing The Incredible Felicity Powers . . .
“I always knew I wanted to be a traveling teacher. For as long as I could remember I imagined myself with a rolling suitcase full of books and a new adventure on the horizon.”
Having spent most of her adult life in university or traveling the world as a teacher, Felicity’s adventures include teaching in a rural village in Alaska and living in a small village in Sumatra, Indonesia. Wherever she goes, she inspires in students a curiosity for the world around them and the skills they need to pursue their interests.
Felicity has a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction design and has a K-8 teaching certificate. She loves building project-based learning into the daily curriculum of her students. Felicity’s students become confident researchers and presenters with the skills necessary to take their learning to the next level. She believes that with individualized curriculum, a student can really explore their passions and develop at a speed that is right for them.
She is a master at applying individualized care and instruction to create an environment where every child loves learning and develops the self-confidence and skills to pursue their passions.
Felicity has experience working with learning disabilities including slow processing, memory difficulties, dyslexia, and dysgraphia. She is also certified in Integrative Mental Health for Youth.
Here at Adventure Nannies, we are so excited to match her with a family that sees the value in travel and new experiences that shape the character of their children.
Felicity embodies all of the qualities we look for in an ideal traveling educator. She is able to roll with change, make solid decisions based on dynamic situations, and is a very confident traveler with children. She embraces new experiences and loves every minute of them. Her previous jobs have included taking children backpacking, camping, boating, and adventuring all over the globe.
