What’s In Your Bag? Ten Tips for Traveling with Kids
Traveling with kids is a rewarding yet challenging experience, and as a nanny or private educator you want to set yourself up for a great trip. Packing, planning, and general preparedness will save nannies in those inevitable moments where melting ice cream cones, sudden thirst, bathroom accidents, or skinned knees, threaten to wreck the day.
Here are our 10 tips for traveling with kids!
Stay positive no matter what. One person’s attitude can change the entire experience, and traveling with kids is all about rolling with it. You have the power to turn any stressful experience into an adventure! That’s what being an Adventure Nanny is all about.
Less is more! Seriously. Bring as little as possible and leave room for souvenirs!
Pack patterned and darker colored clothes to hide the occasional stain– keeping whites clean while traveling can be impossible! Also, Tide-to-go is a travel staple. For fantastic patterned clothing, we love Baby Carrot Kids, made by a multi-talented mother who makes gorgeous colorful, organic, and gender neutral clothing by hand.
Have brightly colored outer layers that are easily spot-able in airports and foreign playgrounds. These reversible Patagonia jackets are perfect for travel – down jackets are super compressible!
Bring more underwear for everyone than you think is necessary. It takes up very little room and you always need more than you think! Of all the things you could re-wear in a pinch, undies shouldn’t be one of them.
Write your phone number on the kids arms in case they get lost and need to call you. You can also buy temp tattoos like these from etsy!
Stash a few portable chargers in various bags in case of emergency, and be sure to have your phone on you! Mr. Boost has some very cute options for this.
Download google maps of the area and save them on your phone to avoid data charges or poor reception. Here’s how!
E-mail yourself a list of fun things to do with kids in the area before you go. There are loads of excellent sources for this- google them before you go! We love Small Folk Travel for their awesome travel tips!
Make the memories last forever by putting together a photo book as a gift to the family. We LOVE Artifact Uprising’s simple and beautiful platform for this.
