Some days, the work we do feels extra special, and today is definitely one of them. 

We’ve always run our business with a core belief: that purpose and profit should go hand-in-hand. Today, we’re thrilled to share a milestone that formalizes this commitment: Adventure Nannies is now a Certified B Corporation™!

This isn't about getting a prize or a new seal of approval. For us, it’s about joining a global community and making a public, legally-binding promise to our nannies, our families, and our team about our commitment to being a Force For Good™. It’s the official stamp on the values we’ve always held and a north star for us to follow  as we continue to grow our business to benefit our community and the planet. We’re so proud to be part of this movement, and we’re excited to share exactly what this new chapter means for you. 

So, what is a B Corp anyway?

You might be seeing the B Corp logo more and more, and for good reason. The certification is granted by B Lab, a global non-profit organization that is building a community of companies dedicated to balancing profit and purpose. To become a Certified B Corporation, we underwent a rigorous, 360-degree evaluation to prove it meets high standards for social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability. 

This isn't just a niche group; it’s a global movement that includes thousands of companies—including well-known brands like Patagonia, Ben & Jerry's, and Athleta —across more than 150 industries and 80 countries, all unified by the goal of creating a more inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.

The assessment looks at how we care for people, both inside our walls and out in the world. For our Workers, it evaluates everything from providing fair wages and benefits to fostering a genuinely nurturing and inclusive work culture for our amazing internal team. For our community, it’s about how we show up for others through our sponsorships, scholarship programs, and commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. The certification also holds us accountable for our planetary footprint, examining our impact on the environment and pushing us to find more sustainable ways to operate. And finally, it looks at the many families and nannies we serve each year with the personalized care and support that makes a meaningful difference in their lives. 

Why B Corp Was An Easy “Yes” For Us

While we’ve been familiar with B Corps for some time, it had never occurred to us that a nanny agency could certify or how we could get through the process as a small service-based business. It wasn’t until Shenandoah, our CEO, met Miren Oca at an Entrepreneurial Master’s Program through EO that she felt called to begin the process.

Miren’s business, Ocaquatics, is a swimming school in Florida that she’s been operating since 1994. She shared her journey through entrepreneurship with us and how her swimming school has become a force for good in the local community - raising up new leaders, creating generational wealth and financial literacy for her staff, and teaching nearly 3 million swimming lessons in the past thirty years. Miren was frankly an inspiration and a source of encouragement and knowledge for Shenandoah, and we are so grateful for all of her support throughout our application journey.

In taking on the assessment, we realized some of the good we were trying to do was right in line with B corp’s mission, and some needed a little tweaking. The act of going through the assessment, documenting our processes, and stepping up in areas we hadn’t given as much attention to has made us a better organization - the certification is the cherry on top.

This certification holds us to that high standard, requiring us to prove, report on, and continuously improve these metrics.
