Household dynamic:

  • This curious, organized CA-based family is seeking a family assistant to nurture and support their bustling household! This is a dual-career household where both parents are regularly in and out of the home. At home, there is a dedicated classroom space for their children, who work with a private educator from Adventure Nannies during the day. The kids are active and enjoy outdoor activities, including hiking, skiing, swimming, and biking, as well as regular classes and activities around San Francisco. The family loves spending quality time together and enjoys traveling throughout the year, spending traditional school breaks traveling and skiing. A candidate who lives on the go and is excited to join and support the family on their adventures will be essential! The family also employs a weekly housekeeper.
  • They have two children who are described by their parents as active, aware, curious, and thoughtful. They are both advanced learners and enjoy diving deep into things they are passionate about. Their 7-year-old son has sensory processing differences and will benefit from some extra support and attention, and thrives in an immersive learning environment. He loves math, science, art, music, and hiking. He does mathematics in his head, listens to podcasts, and has a great memory! He currently reads better in Chinese than in English and would benefit from additional support to build his confidence and skills in this area. Their 4-year-old daughter is highly verbal, already showing pre-reading skills, and loves drawing, painting, clay, and make-believe. The family values a learning-oriented environment and fun activities throughout the day to ensure their children have enjoyable and enriching experiences.

Ideal Candidate:

  • With both parents working, the right candidate will be proactive in stepping in whenever needed. The family would love to work with a candidate who is eager to support the family through various daily logistics and household tasks, including driving children to activities, assisting with family meals, handling full-family laundry, and keeping their home organized. A candidate who is comfortable with following a recipe, chopping vegetables, preparing lunch for kids, and making simple family dinners like one-pot meals or kid-friendly chili with cornbread will be a wonderful addition. Someone who is tech-savvy and enjoys systematizing information will thrive in this role. The family will highly appreciate someone who communicates asynchronously, who is comfortable using tools like Slack, Google Docs, spreadsheets, Instacart, Hearth, and other calendaring, organizational, and communication apps, and who can learn systems independently. A detail-oriented family assistant who can offer thoughtful options, document routines and preferences, and take time to take notes will be deeply valued. The family hopes to find someone who could support the family for years to come.
  • Family assisting duties include running errands, meal planning and preparation, checking the mailbox, overseeing house installations and furniture deliveries, getting monthly car washes and filling up gas, cleaning dishes, keeping the kitchen clean daily, grocery shopping, coordinating with vendors, managing the family calendar, and general household tasks (tidying, organizing children’s areas, occasional errands, before and after school routines, coordinating activities, and traveling with the family throughout the year.) This position is ideal for a warm, grounded, attentive family assistant who can form meaningful connections with children while maintaining firm and clear boundaries. While childcare is not a large part of this role, driving to and from activities will be key, so someone who is comfortable with city driving and navigating the hills of San Francisco will be important! The family is looking for someone who can engage intellectually and possesses strong instincts and confidence when caring for intelligent and curious children. The perfect candidate will have a calm, nurturing, and intuitive presence. Strong judgment and age-appropriate discretion are essential, especially considering the children's verbal acuity and their tendency to retain everything they hear.
  • While not a requirement for the role, the family would love to work with a candidate who has experience working with gifted children and working with sensory processing diagnoses, and background and experience in family assisting and/or household management, including hybrid roles.

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of professional family assisting and/or childcare experience
  • Willingness to do family laundry
  • Comfortable in preparing and cooking family meals
  • Comfortable driving around San Francisco
  • Basic tech skills (familiarity with calendaring, organizational, and communication apps)
  • Local to the Bay Area and within a commutable distance of Balboa Terrace
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record

This position is open to all Adventure Nannies candidates who are legally able to work in the US.
