Household dynamic:
- This playful, growth-oriented, organized family in McLean, VA is seeking a rotational nanny to support their three children! Their oldest, age 4, currently attends a Montessori program. Their 2-year-old will be starting preschool this winter, and their youngest, at 4 months old, is currently cared for full-time at home. The children are easygoing, curious, and happiest when they are actively engaged — whether riding scooters, visiting parks, taking neighborhood walks, creating art, diving into imaginative games, or enjoying the backyard water table and sandbox. Their home also features a fantastic basement playroom complete with blocks, toys, and art supplies, offering plenty of opportunities for active and creative play. The family believes children are capable of remarkable things when given clear expectations, patient guidance, and consistent support.
- This is a dual-career household, with one parent working from home. Both parents are highly involved and committed to raising polite, thoughtful, and responsible children and view their caregiver as a significant, trusted partner. The family follows a Whole30 approach to eating most of the time, values everything in moderation, and keeps clear screen-time rules. They travel roughly two to four weeks each year, driving to nearby beaches in summer and out west in winter, and would love to welcome a travel-ready candidate to join them on their adventures.
Ideal candidate:
- The ideal candidate is a self-confident, grounded, warm, and highly engaging rotational nanny who brings a strong nurturing mindset to their caregiving approach. The family is seeking a candidate with teaching or Montessori experience who understands how to meet children where they are developmentally and thoughtfully guide them as they learn to navigate emotions, build positive behaviors, and develop independence. They are drawn to a rotational nanny who pairs warmth and playfulness with confident leadership — setting clear and consistent boundaries, modeling respectful behavior, and helping the children develop good judgment, consideration for others, and age-appropriate self-help skills. The right person finds joy in creating fun and purposeful childhood experiences, from trips to parks, museums, and classes to art projects, imaginative play, outdoor exploration, and finding natural opportunities for learning throughout the day.
- The family values open communication and hopes to find a rotational nanny who is comfortable partnering closely with highly organized, involved parents. They would love to work with someone who has patience, consistency, and sound judgment in setting expectations and will actively collaborate alongside them to provide a unified, respectful approach to raising kind, well-rounded children. The ideal candidate will bring an empowering, can-do spirit to the household and understand how to keep three young children happily engaged while creating a calm, peaceful environment. They will be proactive, adaptable, and comfortable in taking ownership during their rotation while maintaining consistency with the family’s routines, expectations, and parenting philosophy.
- Responsibilities include creating an environment for the children to grow and thrive, child-related household tasks including but not limited to meal prep, tidying, organizing children’s areas, occasional errands, before and after school routines, coordinating activities, and traveling with the family throughout the year.
- While not a requirement for the role, the family would love to work with a candidate who has experience in natural consequences and boundary-setting, creating structured environments and fostering independence.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of professional childcare experience
- Knowledge and experience with age-appropriate developmental milestones for infants and toddlers
- Bachelor's degree
- Teaching or Montessori experience
- Able to swim and care for children in water
- Experience traveling with families and children
- Valid driver's license
- Partners, family members, and/or pets cannot be housed in any temporary or long-term accommodations provided by the family
- A Note on Health & Safety Requirements: To protect their household, the hiring family requires candidates to provide proof of all standard vaccinations (MMR, Tdap, Flu) before scheduling an in-person trial or finalizing a job offer (subject to applicable laws and required accommodations). Because this is a private family requirement, any relevant records will be requested and reviewed by the family directly. Adventure Nannies does not collect, review, or screen candidates for vaccination status.
