Household dynamic:
- This young, adventurous Bay Area family is hoping to grow in the coming year and is excited to meet someone who wants to be part of their household for the long term! Their 15-month-old son is full of energy, sleeps well, doesn’t cry much, and loves interacting with people and other kids. He is really a dream baby, as his parents describe him. He is not in school yet, but they are considering enrolling him in half-day daycare as he gets older and his socialization needs change. Because the family has additional support from their nearby extended family, who have been pitching in, there may be times during the day when the candidate is not actively caring for the child. During those times, they are looking for someone who can tackle light family assisting tasks. The family is planning to grow over the next few years and hopes to eventually welcome more children into their home. They also have two pets: an extremely friendly, well-trained dog who loves people, and a cat who mostly keeps to himself.
- Both parents work mostly in the office, and work from home once or twice a week. While their workdays are long, they prioritize frequent quality time with their toddler. They describe themselves as pretty laid back when it comes to day-to-day routines, but anticipate a parenting style that is warm yet firm as their son gets older. They want to create a playful environment fueled by curiosity and child-led learning for their children and would love someone who can help foster that. The family enjoys traveling a few times a year, both locally and internationally, usually for one to two weeks at a time. Their trips are a mix of relaxing city or resort stays with a little adventure (think hiking and horseback riding) mixed in. Their child’s maternal grandparents live nearby and help out with childcare occasionally.
Ideal candidate:
- This position is ideal for a calm, travel-ready, engaging, and perceptive nanny/family assistant who is excited to join their growing household and care for their happy, easygoing toddler. They are hoping to work with someone comfortable and proactive about planning playful and engaging activities based on their child’s interests, who brings new ideas, and works autonomously. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who can talk things through, discuss things early, and approach things in a collaborative manner. They will value someone who is experienced, evidence-based, or science-based in their approach. Someone who is driven and motivated, who genuinely wants to do more than the bare minimum.
- Since the family travels for leisure and work, someone adaptable and excited to travel with them is important. The right candidate will also be confident and happy to support the family with light family assisting tasks to keep the household running smoothly. The family is excited to find someone who will be with them for the long term as they grow their family and be a consistent and supportive presence in their loving home.
- While not a requirement for the role, the family would love to work with a candidate who speaks Mandarin. The family and their extended family are fluent in Mandarin, and their son is already picking up key phrases!
Qualifications:
- 3 years of professional childcare experience
- Comfortability preparing meals for the entire family
- Family assisting or household management experience
- Able to travel with the family throughout the year
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in a child or education-related field
- Cat and dog friendly
- Partners, family members, and/or pets cannot be housed in any temporary or long-term accommodations provided by the family
