This month, we are thrilled to feature an extraordinary Adventure Nanny, Jasmine from New York! Jasmine is passionate about working with kids and she loves to feed their desire for knowledge through proactive, responsible, patient, nurturing, energetic, flexible, and respectful caregiving. What are you into right now?
In my free time, I love to relax through drawing, needlework, meditation, and yoga
What is one of your most treasured moments when working with children?
One of the most treasured moments I have experienced while working with children is when I worked with a child who had special needs. He could not talk so one of the gestures I taught him was to blow a kiss. His mom didn’t know that I was teaching him to do that so when she came home one evening and the child blew her a kiss she was overwhelmed with joy. That made me feel accomplished to know that I was able to teach him a form of communication. I will treasure that feeling always.
What are your favorite de-stressing self-care routines that are accessible for any budget?
My favorite de-stressing self-care routines are walking, yoga and meditation. I do yoga and walking to stay active and I do meditation to clear my mind.
What is one piece of life advice you hold dear?
The piece of life advice that I got from my mom that I hold dear is that every disappointment is for the good.
What advice would you give to other nannies for staying calm and collected while working during a pandemic?
The advice that I would give to nannies for staying calm and collected during the pandemic is that in order for them to take care of the kids that they are working with they have to take care of themselves first. In doing so they will have the confidence it takes to not panic and to stay calm, especially when the kids are going to in-person learning and you are worried that they are not taking the same precautions as when they are with you. You as a nanny have to take an abundance of precautions so that you will not be overwhelmed by things going on around you.

Is there anything else you’d like us to know?
Yes! One of the best things about being a nanny is that every day comes with a new experience and a chance to get that gratifying feeling, knowing that I am assisting children in developing skills to give them a good start in life.

St Jude’s Research Hospital and Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation
