We are thrilled to announce Summit Session #7 which will take place in our private Facebook group on August 16th at 11am (PST)/2pm (EST). For this month’s live stream we’re delighted to speak with the creative and talented Amber Scardino, founder of Figment Creative Labs, and co-author of STEAM Kids.
Amber Scardino’s dream was to create a space for people to explore and build confidence in their own creativity. What started in her garage with her two boys grew into classes and camps, and last year into a brick-and-mortar operation called Figment Creative Labs, with a process art studio, a maker space and a discovery lab that focuses on S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math).
Amber and her team are growing to fit the needs of their local community from sensory exploration and process art for their youngest visitors to child-led S.T.E.A.M. activities for the older ones. They’re also offering classes for adults that move beyond the paint-and-sip model of “one pic fits all.” No matter your age, when you come to Figment, you’re encouraged to explore and embrace your own brand of creativity.
Amber says that she “loves that I get to be there with kids to watch them go through their creative process. We just figure stuff out. We grab materials, we solve problems, we make magic. What’s not to love? I love the energy in the studio. There are bunnies hopping, kids laughing, and music playing. It is my happy place.”

In this Summit Session, we will talk about S.T.E.A.M. activities that any caretaker can navigate and learn to share with their charges. We will learn about where to research amazing learning opportunities that are age-appropriate, and how to organize your lessons in a way that are engaging and fun, while also imparting valuable technical lessons to the kids.
