Household dynamic:
- This warm, relaxed family in Calabasas is preparing to begin an exciting new chapter as they bring home their firstborn via surrogacy this August, and is seeking a newborn care specialist to support them through the newborn stage. The candidate will primarily support newborn care and maintain a nurturing, peaceful environment for the baby. The family has a dog, so someone comfortable with pets is essential.
- Both parents work primarily from home and will be present with the baby’s day-to-day. They lead an informal, easy-going household dynamic and expect little to no travel throughout the contract. Fostering a supportive energy at home, the household employs two housekeepers and may also potentially have a daytime nanny. The family values open and clear communication and would love to work with a newborn care specialist who enjoys collaborating with parents and brings a positive presence to the home.
Ideal candidate:
- This position is ideal for a nurturing, calm, communicative, professional, and experienced newborn care specialist who is passionate about supporting newborns and fostering their early development. Someone who is highly attuned to a newborn’s needs, responsive to feeding and sleep cues, and skilled at establishing healthy routines while providing a calm, nurturing presence would thrive in this role. The family would love to work with a professional who embraces a collaborative approach, communicates effectively both in person and via text, and appreciates the family's preference for organic and natural products, including unscented soaps and 100% cotton fabrics. They are seeking someone who can confidently guide first-time parents while remaining flexible and supportive. As the home features multiple levels, the ideal candidate should be comfortable navigating stairs and moving throughout the home with ease while carrying out their daily responsibilities.
- Responsibilities include creating a nurturing and safe environment for the newborn to thrive, as well as other child-related tasks, including prepping and sanitizing bottles, the baby’s laundry, tidying the nursery, and generally bringing a supportive, all-hands-on-deck, collaborative attitude to each day.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of relevant professional experience (as a newborn care specialist, night nanny, doula, or nanny)
- Experience working as a newborn care specialist and/or doula with at least 5 families
- Knowledge of every aspect of newborn care, including professional and working knowledge of feeding, bathing, and dressing infants, and preparing, cleaning, and sanitizing bottles
- Experience and knowledge surrounding sleep conditioning, establishing routines, feeding routines, and developmental milestones
- Newborn care specialist training, preferably through Newborn Care Solutions or another CACHE-accredited program
- Dog-friendly
- Able to comfortably manage multiple levels of stairs in the home
- Partners, family members, and/or pets cannot be housed in any temporary or long-term accommodations provided by the family
