D.C. Winter Warm Up: The Magic of Community in the Capital

There is a specific kind of magic that happens when you get 100+ childcare professionals into one room. On January 9th 2026, we hosted a community gathering in Georgetown at Kitchen 1310, and to say we were blown away would be an understatement. We expected a cozy get-together; what we got was a standing-room-only celebration of the DC nanny community.

Between the hum of networking and the shared stories over appetizers, one thing was crystal clear: DC nannies aren't just looking for jobs. They are looking for a community that honors and respects their career paths, and a room where they can finally feel a sense of belonging. For some, our night together was the first and only time that spirit of recognition has been present during their careers in the DMV.

The Nuance of "Networking" in Our Industry

In the corporate world, "networking" often implies stiff handshakes and checking LinkedIn. But in the nanny industry, it means something much deeper.

First, there is the connection with us. While our recruitment team prides itself on finding the absolute best fit for every role based on experience and qualifications, there is undeniable power in simple face time. Meeting in person bridges the gap between a resume and reality. It gives our team the chance to see the personality behind the paperwork—the warmth, the humor, and the specific energy that doesn't always translate in a cover letter.

That deeper understanding allows us to advocate for you more effectively. When we truly "get" who you are, we can match you with a family that won’t just hire you, but will cherish your specific skillset and mesh seamlessly with your personality.

Then, there is the connection with each other.

The private nature of in-home care can sometimes feel a little quiet. Whether you are new to the industry, a career nanny with a decade of experience or an NCS navigating those first few weeks with a newborn, your workplace is a private residence. It’s a role that requires immense emotional intelligence, but it doesn't generally offer a communal breakroom to vent in or a colleague at the next desk to bounce developmental questions off of.

That is why this event felt so vital. We saw high-caliber professionals connecting with peers who truly understand the nuances of this work. There is an instant bond that forms when you realize the person next to you understands exactly what it is like to balance a toddler's nap schedule with a high-profile family’s travel needs.

“I made some wonderful connections and I really appreciate all the hard work and heart that went into making it happen!” said Beka, a DC Newborn Care Specialist who attended the event.

That sentiment is exactly why we wanted to hold this space. We wanted to provide the room, but the DC community provided the heart.

More Than Just Appetizers: The Heart Behind Our DC Gathering

Sure, the energy at Kitchen 1310 was electric, and the turnout was beyond what we could have hoped for. But let’s be real—we didn’t fly our team to Georgetown just to host a happy hour. We organized this gathering to open a door to the local community because we know that connection isn't just a "nice to have" in this industry; it is essential.

Breaking the "In-Home" Bubble Being a career nanny or Newborn Care Specialist is incredibly rewarding, but it comes with a unique challenge: your workplace is someone else’s private home. There is no breakroom to vent in, no colleague at the next desk to bounce developmental questions off of, and definitely no traditional "water cooler" moments. The role requires immense emotional intelligence and professional discretion, which can sometimes lead to feelings of isolation.

We wanted to create a space where those walls could come down. We saw professionals with decades of experience connecting with peers who truly get it—the nuances, the idiosyncrasies, and the joys of working in private service.

Why Connection Matters for Families

If you are a parent looking for a caregiver, you might be wondering: Why does it matter if my nanny has a strong community?

The answer is simple: A supported caregiver is a sustainable caregiver.

When professionals feel seen, valued, and connected to a community that honors their career path, they are less likely to experience burnout and more likely to thrive in their roles long-term. The 100+ attendees who showed up represent the high caliber of talent in the DMV area—professionals who are deeply invested in their work and the development of the children in their care.

By fostering these connections, we aren't just supporting nannies; we are supporting the families who hire them.

Community As A Force For Good™

As a Certified B Corporation™. , we don’t view our role as just a recruitment firm. We operate with the conviction that business should benefit the people who make it run. For us, that means leaning into the Workers and Community pillars of our B Corp™ framework.

Events like this are a win for us because they allow us to show up for the people who are the backbone of this industry. When we prioritize community, we create a space where everyone feels seen and supported. The enthusiasm shown by the DC crowd highlights that when you build a place for connection, the most dedicated professionals in the world will find their way there.

“We organized this gathering to open a door to the local community, and the DC nannies kicked it wide open,” says our CEO, Shenandoah Davis. “The turnout was a powerful reminder that nannies are looking for partners who see them as the professionals they are. It is an honor to be the agency this incredible community trusts.”
