Thanksgiving Reflections: Finding Gratitude, Grief, and Growth

Reflecting On Gratitude, Grief, and Growth in the Nanny Community

This Thanksgiving, we're holding space for gratitude and grief (and the lyrics to Defying Gravity). As we celebrate the highs of this past year – the laughter, the connections, the growth – let’s take a moment to recognize the challenges and hardships faced by our community and show support and love for those who are still in the trenches of grief. We recognize the complex history of this holiday and the displacement of Indigenous peoples. Therefore, it is essential to remember not only the joyful moments from the past year but also the challenging times we thought we couldn't overcome. By reflecting on these experiences, we can learn valuable lessons and grow from both gratitude and grief.

We've celebrated milestones that reminded us why our work is so important – the laughter echoing through Nanny Camp, the empowering connections forged at Nannypalooza, the industry-shifting conversations at the APNA conference, and the dazzling celebration of Latino nannies at the NALANY Gala.

These moments, along with the daily interactions we have with the incredible nannies and families we have the privilege to work with, have fueled our passion and drive to innovate and create even more extraordinary experiences for the families we serve and to build stronger communities and resources for the incredible nannies who make it all possible.[gallery size="medium" ids="19799,19798,19797"]

Yet, amidst these triumphs, we've faced overwhelming challenges.

Members of our team, candidates we work with, and many friends from the broader nanny community have encountered a wide range of hardships this past year. From sudden medical diagnoses to the financial burdens of a shaky economy to the devastating impacts of natural disasters like Hurricane Helene, many folks have had to make incredibly tough choices and face unimaginable grief—some stepping away from their careers to care for loved ones, and some continuing to show up for work while staying in FEMA housing waiting to be able to return to their homes and reclaim whatever possessions remained - or moving into FEMA housing with their employers so they could continue working to allow their employers to continue working and provide a sense of continuity through unimaginable disasters.

We've also witnessed the strength and resilience of the human spirit, and we've learned that gratitude and grief can and do coexist, each holding space for the other.[gallery size="medium" ids="19770,19782,19771"]Join us in acknowledging the full spectrum of emotions this year has brought. Give thanks for the laughter, the growth, and the unwavering support within our community. We also hold space for the sorrow, the pain, and the memories of those we've lost. We honor their legacies by continuing to fight for a better future, one where every nanny feels valued, supported, and empowered. [gallery size="medium" ids="19781,19768,19780"]

Adventure Nannies believes that genuine gratitude isn't about ignoring the difficult realities of life.

It's about acknowledging the challenges, embracing the growth they inspire, and finding moments of joy even in the midst of hardship. It's about holding onto hope, even when the path ahead seems uncertain.[gallery size="medium" ids="19767,19777,19766"]As we gather with loved ones, let's remember that it's okay to feel both grateful and grieving. Let's offer each other compassion, understanding, and a shoulder to lean on. Let's celebrate the resilience of our community and the unwavering spirit of adventure that guides us forward.

This season, as we gather with loved ones, let's remember that our collective strength makes a difference.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving and as a part of our Giving Tuesday initiative, we invite you to join us in supporting the Nanny Relief Fund.
