
This warm, close-knit family is seeking a seasoned newborn care specialist to provide calm, overnight support for their newborn, with planned international travel.
- Location: Abingdon, Virginia, with a potential travel to Florence, Italy in the fall
- Ages of children: almost 2 years old and newborn due in July 2026
- Contract dates: 8-24 weeks, starting July 13, 2026
- Schedule: 12-hour overnight care (likely 8pm-8am), with an international trip for ~2 weeks in September, where the NCS will be providing 24-hour care for the newborn as well as their 2.5-year-old.
- Compensation: The family is offering an hourly rate of $40-$50/hr, which equates to a weekly compensation of $3,360-$4,200 dependent on candidate experience and the agreed-upon schedule and contract length.
- Live-in/Live-out: Live-in. Accommodations are provided in all locations.
Household dynamic:
- This loving, close-knit family based in a charming town in Virginia is excited to welcome a Newborn Care Specialist to help care for their second child due in late July! The newborn care specialist will primarily be responsible for providing gentle overnight care for their baby boy, nurturing his early development, and establishing healthy sleeping habits. The family also has an almost 2-year-old daughter who is an active, curious little one. She loves being involved in library activities and gymnastics, and delights in reading and spending time with the family’s friendly dog.
- Dad works outside of the home, while Mom stays at home and works part-time as a freelance creative and is very involved in their daughter’s daily routine. The family enjoys traveling internationally throughout the year and may be traveling to Italy with the NCS during the fall. If this trip occurs, the newborn care specialist will be asked to provide care for both children so the parents can fully enjoy the special event and some rare one-on-one time abroad. The parents' itinerary will be structured around the toddler’s nap time, aiming to sightsee and experience the destination. Currently, they are supported by an au pair, who will be transitioning out of the role by August, with plans to potentially bring on a new au pair as well. The family wishes to create a smooth, supportive transition for their incoming newborn care specialist.

The ideal candidate brings a calm, confident presence and a strong foundation in infant sleep, gentle sleep strategies, and soothing techniques. A candidate who is thoughtful, adaptable, and communicative will feel right at home in this collaborative and loving household. The right candidate should be travel-ready and experienced in supporting families while traveling. The family is hoping to find someone who values consistency and proactive care and can genuinely connect with both parents in fostering their baby’s early growth and development.
- Responsibilities include creating a nurturing and safe environment for the newborn to thrive, as well as other child-related tasks, including prepping and sanitizing bottles, the baby’s laundry, tidying the nursery, and generally bringing a supportive, all-hands-on-deck, collaborative attitude to each day. In September, the newborn care specialist will travel with the family and provide 24- hour care for both the baby and toddler during their travels.
- While not a requirement, the family hopes to expose their children to another language and would love to work with a candidate who speaks Spanish.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of relevant professional experience (as a newborn care specialist, night nanny, doula, or nanny)
- Experience working as a newborn care specialist and/or doula with at least 5 families
- Knowledge of every aspect of newborn care, including professional and working knowledge of feeding, bathing, and dressing infants, and preparing, cleaning, and sanitizing bottles
- Experience and knowledge surrounding sleep conditioning, establishing routines, feeding routines, and developmental milestones
- Newborn care specialist training, preferably through Newborn Care Solutions or another CACHE-accredited program
- Ability to travel with the family
- Travel nanny/NCS experience
- Valid passport
- Partners, family members, and/or pets cannot be housed in any temporary or long-term accommodations provided by the family
