Household dynamic:
- This fun, easy-going family based in Milford shares their home with their exceptionally smart and incredibly artistic 15-year-old daughter, who is currently homeschooled with support from a family friend. They are now seeking a dedicated private educator to step into this role and help guide her academic and personal growth. A true creative at heart, she finds joy in painting, drawing, swimming, and spending time with their cats. She has ADHD and tends to share more in common with younger kids than with her peers. Her homeschool curriculum includes social activities with other homeschooled teens during school hours. The family also has two dogs, three house cats, five outdoor barn cats that live with their chickens, a few ducks and geese, and two rabbits - an ideal environment for any animal lover!
- The family dynamic is rooted in balance - structured yet flexible, playful yet respectful, and always grounded in mutual support. They believe in positive discipline, nurturing independence, and making room for plenty of silly moments. Both parents are committed to supporting their daughter’s growth and development and are happy to provide whatever tools are needed to help her thrive both personally and academically. While the educator won’t be expected to travel, the family enjoys traveling regularly during school breaks and sometimes during school time to vibrant destinations like California, Hawaii, and Colorado (and recently visited Japan).
Ideal candidate:
- This position is ideal for a seasoned private educator who brings warmth, consistency, and a creative spark to each day and is passionate about working on both academic and life-skill development. The family is looking for someone who can naturally connect with their daughter while offering strong academic guidance, social emotional support, and a reliable structure that fosters both personal and academic growth. Someone who can set respectful boundaries and be a confident presence in navigating the teen years with patience and compassion will be a great fit. Their daughter thrives in one-on-one environments, so experience with individualized learning is key. The private educator will have full ownership of their daughter's academic direction and will have the opportunity to design a curriculum tailored to her unique learning style, while nurturing and encouraging her interests. The ideal candidate will be a consistent and reliable guide and advocate, helping their daughter mature into a confident, capable young adult.
- Responsibilities include facilitating and customizing a homeschool curriculum, providing academic instruction and enriching activities that support social-emotional development, and driving to and from extracurricular and social activities. The private educator is also responsible for helping the student grow in maturity, independence, and self-confidence, and maintaining a structured yet fun, engaging learning environment tailored to her individual needs and interests.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of professional teaching experience in a classroom or homeschool setting
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience supporting children with ADD/ADHD
- Willing to support driving to/from extracurriculars.
- Valid driver’s license
- Animal-friendly!
