Open
West Coast

This progressive Marin County family seeks a travel-ready nanny for their tender-hearted 9-year-old with special needs.

  • Location: Marin County, CA
  • Ages of children: 9 years old. The family also has 6 and 13-year-old children, and a 16-year-old nephew who are supported by other caregivers.
  • Start date: August 2025
  • Schedule: The family is happy to guarantee 40 hours per week. Candidates will typically work a Monday through Friday split shift from 6:00am to 9:00am and 3:00pm to 9:00pm. The family is happy to provide ample overtime opportunities and optional weekend travel. Schedule is flexible.
  • Compensation: The family is offering $50-60/hour based on the 40-hour/week schedule, which equates to an annualized base compensation of $104,000-124,800k/year, dependent on experience and the agreed-upon schedule. The family may be open to candidates who are seeking a higher compensation package commensurate with experience.
  • Benefits: The family will provide benefits including paid time off, paid holidays, full health, dental, and vision insurance, an education stipend, and relocation assistance. A vehicle will be provided for professional use. The family provides travel stipends and full travel expense coverage, as well as the use of their multiple residences during off-time.
  • Live-in/Live-out: Flexible to live-in or live-out. If live-in, the family is happy to provide a private bedroom in their home.

Household dynamic:

  • This is a lively, progressive return-Adventure Nannies family of five based in Marin County with three boys, ages 13, 9, and 6 years old. Their middle child, age 9, is the heart of this role. He shines with a warm, sweet, and curious energy, along with a love for engaging activities, including tennis, hiking, train sets, mini golf, and musical theatre. He has a constellation of moderate special needs, including autism, intellectual disability, and speech and motor delays. He thrives with calm and confident childcare. The family has a team of nannies who support their other three children. During the week, all four children attend school full-time and participate in a variety of afterschool activities. The family is also home to a rambunctious dog, so candidates should be comfortable working in a pet-friendly home.
  • This is a vibrant, community-minded home, which bustles with extended family and friends. On weekends and holidays, the family travels to vacation homes in rural northern CA, Maui, and Tahoe, and summer vacations are typically spent abroad. This summer's adventure takes the family + 3 nannies through Mexico, Peru, and sailing the Lesser Antilles. The family would love to work with someone who enjoys moving and interacting with people, and is always up for adventure, whether exploring locally or internationally. The family maintains a strong team ethos and is seeking a nanny who enjoys working in partnership with parents, therapists, educators, and other nannies.

Ideal candidate:

  • This role is ideal for someone with a blend of humor, professionalism, and a strong interest in special education or pediatric care. The ideal candidate is upbeat, enthusiastic, and eager to contribute to a supportive, engaged community both in and out of school—someone who enjoys organizing and hosting playdates and is excited to build meaningful connections. The role requires physical agility, including the ability to run short distances and calmly intervene in moments of dysregulation or elopement. Candidates must be strong, quick, and confident in maintaining safety with care and composure. A strong fit will be developmentally attuned and able to thoughtfully integrate learning, life skills, and communication goals into daily routines, aligned with the child’s therapeutic and educational plans. Clear structure, consistency, and emotional attunement are essential. The family is seeking a highly organized caregiver who can confidently coordinate with a multidisciplinary team, manage personal care needs, and utilize adaptive tools as needed. Emotional and physical resilience is key, as is a long-term mindset and enthusiasm for both the challenges and rewards of the role. Candidates who bring a science-first mindset, value inclusivity (anti-racist, LGBTQ+ affirming, feminist), and lead with kindness and work ethic will align well with the family’s values. Flexibility is also important, as the role involves navigating changing plans and thriving in a wide range of environments—from outdoor adventures to high-end events.
  • Responsibilities include fostering an environment where the children can grow and thrive, managing school drop-off and pick-up, and coordinating transportation to therapies, after-school programs, and medical appointments. The nanny will be responsible for maintaining the middle child’s calendar and collaborating closely with his educators, therapists, and care team. Additional duties include organizing outings, coordinating playdates and in-home activities, preparing light meals and snacks for the children, and traveling with the family during school breaks and summer months. Candidates should bring a flexible, positive, and proactive approach to shifting schedules and environments.
  • While not a requirement for the role, the family would love to work with a candidate who has experience working in fully-staffed homes and who enjoys skiing.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of professional childcare experience
  • Knowledge and experience with age-appropriate developmental milestones for elementary school-aged children
  • Degree in child development, speech therapy, occupational therapy, special education, or other comparable field
  • Experience working with children with neurodivergence or intellectual disability
  • Ability to provide a 9-year-old with physical support and safety, including running short distances
  • Ability to navigate natural environments with wild animals for hiking and camping
  • Strong swimmer, and comfort with ocean water activities and sports
  • Travel nanny experience and ability to travel for extended periods
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to drive around the family’s area of residence
  • Valid passport
  • Pet-friendly
