Household dynamic:
- This warm, hands-on family has two young boys, aged 3.5 years and 14 months. Their older son is a curious, talkative, active preschooler who loves books, reading, numbers, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, and getting out and about. He attends preschool from approximately 8:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Their younger son is a happy, active toddler who is home during the day and currently soaking up new words, skills, and experiences. Both boys thrive with full, engaging days that balance school, classes, playdates, playgrounds, walks, outings, rest, and plenty of age-appropriate play. The family hopes to welcome another child in the future and is looking for a nanny/family assistant who is genuinely excited about building a long-term relationship with a growing family.
- Both parents have demanding careers, with one parent traveling frequently for work and the other working from home, so their weekdays can involve many moving pieces. They are involved parents who value a collaborative, team-oriented relationship with their nanny/family assistant while also trusting them to independently manage the children's day. A part-time nanny provides additional support in the afternoons and early evenings, as well as a weekly housekeeper, so willingness to collaborate with other household staff is essential. The family also travels with their children and would love someone who is comfortable joining them for occasional trips, including the flexibility to travel to destinations such as the Hamptons or upstate New York weekly during the summer months. They will also value flexibility for occasional evenings, overnights, and longer workdays.
Ideal candidate:
- This position is ideal for a warm, intelligent, reliable nanny/family assistant who is deeply interested in children and their development. This family is looking for someone who sees themselves as an active participant in the boys' growth through developmentally-minded and engaging activities. For their preschooler, this means finding playful ways to encourage early literacy and math skills through books, games, conversation, and thoughtfully chosen activities. For their toddler, it means talking and reading throughout the day, supporting language development, encouraging emerging skills, and naturally incorporating developmental learning into everyday play and outings. The family values a nanny/family assistant who can make learning fun and age-appropriate while also supporting independence, routines, good manners, boundaries, and positive behavior. The family values a nanny/family assistant who is fully present and engaged with the children throughout the day and maintains a phone-free environment when working. Someone who brings positive energy, sound judgment, organization, and initiative, and is genuinely excited to support and nurture children will be a great fit.
- Reliability, adaptability, and ownership are especially important. Both parents depend on consistent childcare, so the right candidate will be exceptionally punctual and dependable, communicate proactively, exercise strong judgment, and think several steps ahead. They would love someone who notices what needs to happen and takes initiative without waiting for every task to be assigned. This is a collaborative household, and the nanny/family assistant should enjoy working closely with involved parents, receiving feedback, exchanging ideas, and functioning as part of a team. Comfort working alongside a work-from-home parent and enthusiasm for keeping the children active and engaged will be important for this role.
- Responsibilities include creating an environment for the children to grow and thrive, confidently managing daily routines, keeping track of schedules, supplies, and children's belongings, managing before and after-school routines, supporting naps and downtime, planning and coordinating activities, walking to and from school and activities and being out and about with the children and traveling with the family throughout the year. The nanny/family assistant will also take ownership of child-related household responsibilities, including children's laundry, keeping bedrooms and play spaces tidy and organized, rotating and putting away toys, and maintaining children's supplies. During natural downtime, the family appreciates a generally helpful attitude toward very light household tasks such as loading or unloading the dishwasher or tidying the kitchen. Cooking is a meaningful and important part of this role. The family is looking for someone who genuinely enjoys cooking for children and is excited to take ownership of planning and preparing fresh, healthy, varied meals, snacks, and school lunches. They would love a candidate who enjoys introducing children to a range of nutritious foods and can use appropriate downtime, such as nap periods, to plan and prepare meals.
- While not a requirement for the role, the family would love to work with a candidate who speaks Spanish, is able to swim and care for children in water, early childhood education or experience, and a bachelor’s degree.
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of professional childcare experience
- Knowledge of child development and experience with age-appropriate developmental milestones for infants, toddlers, and preschool ages
- Excellent reliability and punctuality
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Comfort preparing healthy meals for children
- Flexibility for occasional longer days, evenings, overnights, and travel
- Flexibility to travel weekly during the summer to destinations such as the Hamptons or upstate New York
- Comfort working with a work-from-home parent
- A valid passport or ability to obtain one for potential occasional travel
- Partners, family members, and/or pets cannot be housed in any temporary or long-term accommodations provided by the family
- A Note on Health & Safety Requirements: To protect their household, the hiring family requires candidates to provide proof of all standard vaccinations (MMR, Tdap, Flu)] before scheduling an in-person trial or finalizing a job offer (subject to applicable laws and required accommodations). Because this is a private family requirement, any relevant records will be requested and reviewed by the family directly. Adventure Nannies does not collect, review, or screen candidates for vaccination status.
