Household dynamic:

  • This close-knit family is seeking a lead nanny to join their team and care for two children! Their current lead nanny is transitioning out of the role, and the family is thoughtfully exploring ways to support continuity of care during this time. They hope to find a capable nanny to step in and provide steady support for the children. The children are bright, social, funny, curious, and affectionate. Their 8-year-old daughter is into arts and crafts and storytelling, while their 5-year-old son is active and easy-going. Both children delight in reading and music, and are described as having creative, playful spirits. The nanny will create a calm, safe, and developmentally intentional environment for both children while practicing co-regulation and modeling respectful communication and clear boundaries, and supporting their independence and self-initiation aligned with Montessori principles. The family has a cat, so candidates need to be comfortable with this.
  • The family enjoys traveling primarily within the US and is looking into international trips for the first time this year. They will appreciate a nanny who is excited to join them. This is a communicative, fully staffed home, and the candidate will report to both the chief of staff and parents and will work alongside other staff to ensure the children’s needs are met. The current nanny team consists of the rotational nanny (one of whom is transitioning out) and a part-time nanny who supports afternoon activities. The family follows a respectful approach to care and will enjoy working with a candidate who aligns with these philosophies and can be a positive role model for their children!

Ideal candidate:

  • This position is ideal for a warm, highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive nanny - capable of stewarding both the emotional and practical ecosystems that support the children’s growth. A nanny who embodies conscious leadership, emotional intelligence, and a relationship-first approach to childhood development will be an excellent fit. Experience supporting neurodivergent children, a commitment to child-led and respectful caregiving, and a strong understanding of co-regulation are key. The nanny will serve as a grounded, nurturing, and collaborative presence within a private family home. Someone who aligns with respectful, child-centered philosophies such as RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers), Janet Lansbury’s respectful caregiving approach, and Montessori principles will be a wonderful addition to the team. The family values strengths-based, developmentally attuned care rooted in connection, autonomy, and co-regulation rather than compliance-based models. The family is open to welcoming either a seasoned professional nanny who is prepared to step fully into a leadership role, or a strong relational caregiver who may not yet identify as a “Head Nanny” but is aligned philosophically with the family and open to growing within a supported structure. As this is a private family, discretion, professionalism, and respect for confidentiality are important. This is a dynamic, fast-paced household with multiple ongoing projects, and someone who is industrious, adaptable, and solution-oriented will thrive. A team mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to take ownership while remaining collaborative are essential in this environment.
  • Responsibilities include creating an environment for the children to grow and thrive, child-related household tasks, including but not limited to meal prep, tidying, organizing of children’s areas, occasional errands, before and after-school routines, supervising play (independent and structured), and accompanying family outings and events. The nanny will also be responsible for managing children’s travel preparation (packing, inventory, planning), supporting their art, creative, and educational projects from conception to completion, maintain organized systems for clothing, materials, and seasonal rotations, tracking and replenishing children’s supplies and essentials, and anticipating the children’s needs proactively and execute with strong attention to detail, and traveling with the family throughout the year.

Qualifications:

  • Professional childcare experience (5+ years preferred for leadership placement)
  • Alignment with RIE/respectful caregiving and Montessori philosophy
  • Experience supporting neurodivergent children with a balanced, Janet Lansbury-informed approach
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Cat-friendly and does not have an allergy to cats
  • Physically able to occasionally lift up to 35 pounds, actively engage in daily childcare, and navigate stairs.
  • Up-to-date vaccinations ( flu, tdap, covid, etc.)
  • Partners, family members, and/or pets cannot be housed in any temporary or long-term accommodations provided by the family
