Household dynamic:

  • This is an active, welcoming family in the spectacular Copper River Basin seeking a dedicated nanny for their silly, energetic 2.5-year-old boy. Their son loves animals, construction vehicles, and reading books. He is very talkative, imaginative, and friendly. In the winter, he loves riding around on his kick sled, and in the summer, he enjoys going for walks and bike rides. Living in a beautiful region of Alaska, the family feels lucky to have extraordinary opportunities for outdoor activities they enjoy, including fishing, hunting, skiing, and backpacking, and many good people in this rural community.
  • The family lives adjacent to one of the largest wilderness areas in the country and embraces all four seasons. While they are in a rural area, their home is still on the road system! The family enjoys playing outside in all seasons, but especially love to ski in the winter and raft in the summer. They also love to hike, run, go to the local playground, and berry picking. This is a dual-career household where both parents work primarily outside the home. The family also loves visiting Valdez, Fairbanks, and Anchorage and would love to welcome a nanny who appreciates the outdoor lifestyle and can thrive in a rural community.

Ideal candidate:

  • This position is ideal for a self-confident, adaptable, upbeat, and developmental-minded nanny who finds joy in supporting an active and curious toddler. The family values someone who understands child development and approaches caregiving intentionally - intuitive with his unique needs and fostering his developmental milestones. They would love a creative, resourceful nanny who prioritizes planning both outdoor and indoor activities, is outgoing and engaging, and is excited to foster curiosity, imagination, and a love of adventure. A candidate who feels at home embracing the family's active, nature-filled lifestyle through activities like skiing, hiking, boating, and other outdoor pursuits and who is equally excited to create creative, intentional indoor experiences during Alaska's long, cold winters will especially thrive in this role. The role is perfect for someone who genuinely embraces Alaska's winter and vibrant summer.
  • Responsibilities include creating an environment for the child to grow and thrive, child-related household tasks including but not limited to meal prep, tidying, organizing children’s areas, occasional errands, and coordinating activities.
  • While not a requirement for the role, the family would love to work with a candidate who has higher education, such as ECE units, a Bachelor's degree, or Child Development certifications. Someone who loves the outdoors and outdoor sports will be a huge plus!

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of professional childcare experience
  • Knowledge of early child development and milestones for ages 2 to 4 years
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Confident driving in winter weather conditions in a rural environment
  • Partners, family members, and/or pets cannot be housed in any temporary or long-term accommodations provided by the family
