NYC | Strategic Director Of Household Operations Wanted For Organized New York Family

Open

This thoughtful, organized, private family is seeking a reliable, experienced, system-oriented Director of Household Operations to establish structure, elevate standards, and ensure seamless day-to-day execution across all aspects of their household and family logistics.

  • Location: New York City, New York. (Operating primarily from the New York family office to support a household based in Miami, Florida.)
  • Start date: As soon as they find the right fit!
  • Schedule: Full-time, guaranteeing 40+ hours per week with a schedule that reflects the senior nature of the role and the family’s travel needs.
  • Compensation: An annual base salary of $170k+, dependent on experience.
  • Benefits: The family will provide a performance-based bonus, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
  • Live-in/Live-out: Live-out.

Household dynamic:

  • This warm, intentional, and organized family is in an exciting growth phase and is seeking a Director of Household Operations to provide the strategic leadership and seamless execution required to run a high-level home. This senior-level candidate will have the autonomy to build the operational backbone of the household, creating systems and leading a diverse team to ensure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
  • The household includes children supported by a rotating team of caregivers; this role will oversee childcare logistics at a high level, ensuring consistency in scheduling, communication, and expectations. Additional household members include a private chef, housekeeping support, and a suite of outside vendors (maintenance, landscaping, pest control, and handyman services), all of whom will report to the Director. You will be responsible for setting expectations, running regular check-ins, and solving issues before they escalate, with the potential to hire and manage a personal assistant as the structure evolves.
  • Both parents are highly involved and value a collaborative, peaceful environment where reliability and proactive problem-solving are paramount. While the family is based in Miami, the Director will work primarily from the New York family office to design and maintain the systems that support the family's balance of professional commitments, wellness, and travel. You will report directly to Dad (the main principal) and partner with Mom on family standards, acting with a high degree of independence to ensure the home is always prepared for travel and guests without constant principal involvement.

Ideal candidate:

  • This position is ideal for a calm, highly capable, and senior-level leader who thrives on bringing order and clarity to a fast-moving environment. The ideal candidate is a strategic architect who naturally identifies what is missing, what can be improved, and how to implement those changes autonomously. We are seeking a candidate who is equally comfortable designing high-level systems from scratch and following through with hands-on leadership to ensure consistent execution.
  • The right candidate leads with a proactive mindset and an accountable working style, knowing how to delegate effectively and empower the staff to take ownership of their specific roles. You should be calm under pressure, highly discreet, and solutions-oriented, with a direct and transparent leadership approach. Strong interpersonal instincts are key, as this role requires managing a small team and navigating vendor relationships while maintaining a respectful and professional household culture. Since the family travels occasionally, a travel-ready candidate who is excited to join them on trips to maintain standards of ease and consistency is essential.
  • This role is responsible for the full oversight of household operations, including team leadership, vendor management, and the ongoing optimization of workflows. The Director will design and manage the household’s full operational ecosystem, which includes:
  • Building and maintaining a comprehensive household calendar across daily to annual rhythms.
  • Establishing clear ownership and accountability across all staff and vendors.
  • Creating and updating a detailed household manual and playbook.
  • Leading and developing the high-performing household team (chef, caregivers, housekeepers).
  • Overseeing vendor sourcing, contract negotiation, and performance.
  • Implementing and managing a digital household management platform.
  • Ensuring seamless execution of travel preparation, guest readiness, and seasonal needs.
  • Proactively anticipating and solving issues to keep the home running at peak performance without needing day-to-day direction from the principals.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in household management, estate management, or senior operations in premium service businesses or residences
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in building systems, SOPs, checklists, manuals, and operating routines
  • Proven experience hiring and managing a small team and outside vendors.
  • Experience working with private families where strong judgment and discretion are paramount.
  • Expertise in navigating modern tools and household/project management platforms.
  • Ability and willingness to travel with the family when needed throughout the year.
  • Valid passport.
  • Partners, family members, and/or pets cannot be housed in any temporary or long-term accommodations provided by the family.
