  • Ages of children: First child due mid-October 2025
  • Start date/Contract dates: The family is seeking a 16-week contract with a start date of October 1st at the latest (newborn is due October 10th). The contract will begin with meeting parents at the surrogate’s location and being present for the birth, and then the candidate will travel back to San Francisco with family and baby.

  • Live-in/Live-out: Live-out. A bedroom and bathroom in a separate, nearby (walkable) apartment will be provided for the candidate to use during off-hours. Visiting family members may be staying in the apartment in separate bedrooms for some or all of the contract.

Household dynamic:

  • This intellectual, gentle couple is looking forward to growing their family this fall! Their newborn will be delivered via surrogate in mid-October, and they are assembling a dream team to support them for both the short-term and long-term! These soon-to-be-parents are lifelong learners who enjoy reading together and are seeking an exceptionally experienced newborn care specialist with a cool, nurturing energy and a willingness and passion for sharing their knowledge with both the parents, extended family, and their long-term nannies. The new parents will have extended family staying nearby to support them for the first few months.
  • The family wants to create secure long-term attachments for their newborn and is bringing in a daytime nanny. Part of this role will include training and communicating with their daytime nanny around routines, schedules, and best practices for the newborn during the day to support sleep conditioning and developmental milestones throughout the 4-month contract. The family is planning on bringing in a night nanny to support the daytime nanny after the newborn care specialist’s contract for you to train, mentor, and work alongside for the final 1-2 weeks of your contract.

Ideal candidate:

  • The family would love to work with a newborn care specialist with familiarity training and working alongside nanny teams. They deeply respect the role an NCS plays and are looking forward to learning as a team alongside their nannies during the first few months of their newborn’s life. Candidates with experience working alongside surrogacy, adoption, and/or roles with non-birthing parents will be preferred, although anyone who can demonstrate empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental presence will be welcomed. The family is looking for someone to support with all best practices, including selecting donor milk, formula, and other options, bonding and attachment after birth, nursery setup, and all other aspects of newborn care. Someone who respects and understands the important role newborn care specialists play in homes and is willing to follow routines and instructions set by the NCS and parents will be key for success in this role!
  • Responsibilities include creating a nurturing and safe environment for the newborn to thrive, as well as other child-related tasks, including prepping and sanitizing bottles, the baby’s laundry, tidying the nursery, and generally bringing a supportive, all-hands-on-deck, collaborative attitude to each day.
  • This family is prioritizing secure attachment and bonding time between their newborn and the entire care team, so candidates who are able to commit to the full contract without any substitutions will be prioritized!
  • While not a requirement, the family would love to work with a candidate who has experience, passion, and grace in supporting new parents through surrogacy and/or adoption.

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of relevant professional experience (as a newborn care specialist, night nanny, doula, or nanny)
  • Experience working as a newborn care specialist and/or doula with at least 5 families
  • Knowledge of every aspect of newborn care, including professional and working knowledge of feeding, bathing, and dressing infants, and preparing, cleaning, and sanitizing bottles
  • Experience and knowledge surrounding sleep conditioning, establishing routines, feeding routines, and developmental milestones
  • Newborn care specialist training, preferably through Newborn Care Solutions or another CACHE-accredited program
  • Someone who can commit to the full duration of the contract
  • Experience training and mentoring nanny teams through smooth transitions and/or working as part of a nanny/NCS team
